64th Foundation Day Celebrated with Grandeur at Manohari Devi Kanoi Girls’ College
DIBRUGARH, July 5, 2026: Manohari Devi Kanoi Girls’ College (MDKG College), one of Assam’s premier institutions of higher education, celebrated its 64th Foundation Day with a grand day-long programme at the Science Block (Campus-II).
The programme, compered by Dr. Shreemoyee Bordoloi and Dr.Chandan Jyoti Chutia, commenced at 9:30 a.m. with the hoisting of the institutional flags at the Arts and Science Block campuses by Principal Dr. Anup Jyoti Bharali and Vice-Principal Mrs. Purnima Chutia, respectively. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Ashwini Machey, Coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), along with the distinguished guests.
The formal inaugural session began at 9:50 a.m. with the rendition of the college anthem by a chorus of faculty members and students. The anthem was written by Dr. Gayatri Devi Goswami and composed by renowned musician Tapan Bordoloi.
Delivering the welcome address, Vice-Principal Mrs. Purnima Chutia extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, which included Dr. Raghunath Barbara, former Principal of DHSK Commerce College and former President of the Governing Body of MDKG College, Dr. Dilip Kumar Bhuyan, former Principal of MDKG College; Dr. Khanindra Mishra Bhagawati, former Principal of DHSK Commerce College; Mr. Jyotiprasad Kanoi, noted social worker and Governing Body member; and Dr. Bhupen Barman, former Principal of DDR College. Members of the Students’ Union and the student community also felicitated the guests.
A goodwill message from Dr. Surajit Borkotoky, President of the College Governing Body, was read out during the programme, along with messages from the Principal, MDKG College and Dr. Lohit Saikia. Dr. Ashwini Machey presented a comprehensive report highlighting the college’s academic achievements, institutional progress, and major accomplishments during the past two years.
The invited dignitaries shared their valuable insights and reflections on the institution’s journey and future prospects. An interactive session featuring former faculty members, alumni, and well-wishers was also held under the moderation of Dr. Anita Sharma.
As part of the celebrations, several retired teachers and former staff members were felicitated in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the institution and society. Among those honoured were Dr. Sewali Barbara, Dr. Pratasalata Buragohain, Ms. Kalyani Baruah, Dr. Anju Bora, Mrs. Moon Moon Sarma, Dr. Sandhya Devi, Mr. Kiran Chandra Mech, Mr. Bikash Baruah, Dr.Chandi Seth, Dr. Pallavi Barooah, Dr. Shangamitra Saikia, Ms. Manisha Dutta Hazarika, and several others.
The celebration was enriched with a series of colourful cultural performances by present and former students. Ankita Gogoi presented a soulful Borgeet, while Mudrashree Saikia performed a graceful Sattriya dance. Alumna Sanjana Bordoloi captivated the audience with a solo dance performance, Doyel Biswas rendered a melodious Bhupendra Sangeet, and alumna Papari Sharma performed a song. Pushpa Gaonkhowa, Assistant Professor in the Department of Sanskrit, recited a self-composed poem, while NCC cadets Darsi Borgohain and Deepti Sonowal impressed the audience with a duet dance performance.
Representing the teaching community, Mrs. Manisha Rudra Tariang, Associate Professor in the Department of English, shared her reflections on the institution’s legacy and future aspirations. Geetika Sonowal spoke on behalf of the students. Certificates were also distributed to dedicated NSS volunteers in recognition of their service and commitment.
The 64th Foundation Day celebrations concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Anita Sharma, followed by a light refreshment session, marking the successful culmination of the memorable event.
