On 13th October, 2025, the Department of Sociology, MDKG College, Dibrugarh, organized a programme titled “Showcase of Indigenous People and their Culture” to highlight the rich cultural heritage of various indigenous communities of Assam in collaboration with IQAC of the college. The main objective of the programme was to familiarize students with the diverse traditions, practices, and ways of life of the indigenous peoples of the state on the occasion of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.
Although the official observance of the day falls on 9th August, due to certain technical reasons, the department organized the event on 13th October instead. A total of 11 groups of students presented PowerPoint presentations on 11 different indigenous communities of Assam. The resource person, Dr. Promanita Bora, delivered an insightful speech based on the presentations, appreciating the students’ efforts and emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting indigenous knowledge and culture. Earlier, Prof. Moushumi Bordoloi presented welcome address and VP Prof. Aniruddha Dutta inaugurated the event by stating the colourfullness of culture. Principal of the college, Dr. Anup Jyoti Bharali also presented his speech and stated that there are plenty scope to work on this field of culture. Prof. Monika Gogoi offers vote of thanks. The event was started with singing of National Anthem and ended with singing of JATIYA SANGEET
