National Librarians’ Day was organised by MDKG College Library on 12th August 2025 to commemorate Padma Shri S. R. Ranganathan, the father of Library Science in India, on his 133rd birth anniversary. Vice Principal of MDKG College, Mr. Aniruddha Dutta, paid tribute to S. R. Ranganathan by lighting the earthen lamp on the occasion. Librarian Mr. Jadavjyoti Saikia highlighted the illustrious career of Ranganathan and spoke about his immense contributions to the field of library and information science with great admiration.
The speaker of the day, Ms. Shatabdi Kakoty, faculty member of the Department of Economics, MDKG College, delivered her lecture on the topic “Reading in the Age of the Internet.” She emphasised the importance of reading a book along with other opportunities available due to advancements in science, technology, and communication. She also stressed the need to select information sources wisely for academic purposes.
An interactive session followed, where teachers and students actively participated. IQAC Coordinator Dr. Ashwini Machey, faculty members Dr. Shekhar Purkayastha, Ms. Moushumi Bordoloi, Dr. Anita Sharma, Dr. Abhilupta Borgohain, Dr. Chandan Jyoti Chutia, Dr. Monikha Konwar, Dr. Punyaprovra Baruah, office assistant Ms. Jonali Boruah, library staff members Ms. Pubali Barman, Mr. Hironya Das, Mr. Pallab Dihingia, and about 60 students from the 1st and 3rd semesters were present at the celebration.
Mr. Jadavjyoti Saikia, Librarian of MDKG College, hosted the event and delivered the vote of thanks to all concerned for making the event a success.
