A workshop on Urban Governance was organized by the Department of Political Science, M.D.K.G. College, Dibrugarh in collaboration with the Praja Foundation on 17th February, 2026 at Room No. 1 at 11:00 a.m. The programme started with the introductory speech offered by Uzma Rahman,faculty of the department.Dr.Jogesh Das, Assistant Professor of the department and Dr.Ashwini Machey, Coordinator,IQAC,MDKG College were also present in the occasion.The programme focused on the topic “Three Tiers of Governance in India.”
The resource person for the workshop was Azaz Ahmed Ansari, Program Officer, DMC, Dibrugarh. He delivered an insightful lecture on the structure and functioning of governance at the Union, State and Local levels, with special emphasis on the role of urban local bodies in strengthening grassroots democracy. He explained how coordination among the three tiers ensures effective policy implementation, better service delivery and inclusive urban development. He also highlighted the importance of citizen participation, transparency and accountability in urban administration.
The session was interactive and highly informative. Students got the opportunity to understand the practical aspects of municipal governance and the challenges faced in urban management. The speaker encouraged the students to take interest in public policy, local governance and civic engagement.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Anita Sharma , Assistant Professor of the Department of Political Science,MDKG College.Dr Sharma expressed gratitude to the resource person and Praja Foundation fellows Jharna Das & Rupraj Boruah for their collaboration and for making the programme meaningful and enriching for the students.
Overall, the workshop was successful with the active participation of more than 100 students.It also contributed in enhancing the participants’ understanding of urban governance and its relevance in the contemporary democratic framework.
