Report of Observation of National Unity Day 2025 organized by the Department of Philosophy in collaboration with IQAC, MDKG College, Dibrugarh.
The Department of Philosophy, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) MDKG College, organized the Observation of National Unity Day 2025 to commemorate birth anniversary (150th) of Sarder Vallabhbhai Patel with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. An Invited lecture on ‘Role of Educational Institutions in fostering National Integration’ was organized on this occasion which was delivered by Dr.Biraj Dutta, Assistant Professor in the department of Political Science,DHSK College (Autonomous), Dibrugarh. The program was graced by the Honourable Principal, Vice Principal, faculty members, and most attractively, by the active presence of a large number of students from both the Arts and Science streams, newly elected members of MDKGirls’College Students’ Union Society (2025-26) along with members of Students’ Union Society 2024-25 making the event truly vibrant and meaningful.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Rupali Majumder, Head of the Department of Philosophy, who highlighted the significance of observing National Unity Day and the ideals of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in promoting unity and integrity among Indians.
Following this, the Honourable Principal of MDKG College Dr.Anup Jyoti Bharali delivered the inaugural speech, emphasizing Sarder Vallabhbhai Patel’s pivotal role in uniting the numerous princely states after independence, laying the foundation for a strong and integrated India. He also highlighted importance of educational institutions in nurturing a sense of national belonging, harmony among students. The Vice Principal of the college, Aniruddha Dutta also addressed the gathering, appreciating the department’s effort in organizing such a relevant and inspiring event.
The atmosphere became mesmerizing when Sikhajyoti Borthakur, Assistant Professor in the department of Sanskrit, MDKG College, sang the iconic unity song “Mile Sur Mera Tumhara,” filling the hall with the spirit of togetherness.
Bonti Dutta, Assistant Professor in the department of Philosophy introduced the resource person, Dr. Biraj Dutta, elaborating on his academic achievements and administrative contributions.
Dr. Biraj Dutta, in his insightful address, emphasized that true education goes beyond academics—it plays a vital role in shaping responsible citizens who uphold unity, tolerance, and respect for diversity. He urged students to view educational spaces as platforms for building social harmony and collective progress. The resource person shared several valuable measures how an educational institution can foster integration and harmony among students from diverse background. Dr.Dutta comprehensively addressed the theme of unity and integrity of India, examining it from historical, geographical, religious, and contemporary perspective and also suggested possible solutions to strengthen national integration of India.
The session was then opened for interaction, during which Dr. Moutusi Bagchi and Dr. Bornali Nath Dowerah engaged in thoughtful discussion with the resource person, enriching the intellectual exchange.
The program was marked by overwhelming participation of both students and teachers, which contributed greatly to its success and vibrant atmosphere.
The event concluded with vote of thanks by Nilufar Rahman, Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries and participants for their support and presence in making the program a grand success.
The observation of National Unity Day 2025 at MDKG College served as a reminder of the strength found in unity and the role of educational institutions in sustaining it for the nation’s collective well-being.
