The College has established a Women Cell in the college in 2002  with an aim of creating awareness of their rights and duties and  providing  a platform for women to share their experiences and views regarding their status in the society and to suggest ways to improve and empower themselves. The cell stands for facilitating women’s empowerment through guest lectures, seminars, awareness programmes and other welfare activities. The objectives of the cell are :

Ø To enhance self-esteem and self-confidence of women students, faculty and staff in the college and quality of life.

Ø To eliminate the gender disparity, especially in academic life.

Ø To enable women to become aware of  their choices in areas like education, employment and health especially reproductive health.

                                 
Activity Report from 2012-2017

Ø A Talk and Interaction session was held on 9th June, 2012, at 11 am on the topic Women in Science & Technology chaired by Dr. Jyoti Rekha Handique, Associate Professor, Dept.- Chemistry, Dibrugarh University. The target audience comprised of students, teaching and non- teaching staff.

ØA poster exhibition among students was held on 6th March, 2015, on the occasion of International Women’s Day Celebration 2015. The theme was Women in Contemporary Assam.

Ø An event on Yoga Practice was organised on 13th March, 2015, to promote Yoga for Physical and Mental Wellness. Yoga instructor, Ms. Ruma Devi conducted the program targeting both teaching and non- teaching staff of college.

Ø There was the release of the journal, EMBARK, the fifth issue in association with Ellora Bijnan Mancha, Dibrugarh and Prof. Ratna Dutta, Associate Professor, Dept.- Assamese, MDK Girls’ College, as Editor, on 30th Oct., 2015. The theme was “Women and Superstitions”. The event was inaugurated by respected Principal, Dr. Dilip Kumar Bhuyan, MDK Girls’ College.

Ø On 8th March, 2016, a demonstration program on women’s self- defence on the occasion of the celebration of International Women’s Day 2016 was held. Ms. Lanima Talukdar, Asst. Professor, Centre for Physical Education & Sports, Dibrugarh University, steered the event.

Ø  A rendezvous on Women’s Wellness was held on 23rd Sept, 2016. Ms. Bobby Kalita, Proprietor of Beaushine Beauty Clinic and Yoga Training Centre from Dibrugarh wielded the baton. Demonstration and interaction formed a major part of the session.

Ø Yet another year of commemoration of International Women’s Day on March 8th, 2017, was observed with a session on STRESS & LIFESTYLE MANAGEMENT with an insight to Yogic Philosophy, Diet, Nutrition, Rest, Sleep, etc. enlightened by Shri Bhargav Dev Choudhury, Teacher of Physical Education, Oil India Higher Secondary School, Duliajan. The audience consisted of students, teachers and non- teaching staff.
